About the role
Synear Foods USA is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join the Finance team at our western U.S. manufacturing headquarters. This role is critical to understanding our true cost of goods, driving margin improvement, and supporting strategic decisions made by plant and corporate leadership. You will work closely with Production, Supply Chain, and the CFO to build and maintain a robust cost accounting framework for our growing U.S. operations. This is a high-visibility position that directly influences business decisions at the product and SKU level.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain the standard cost system for all manufactured SKUs, including direct materials, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead allocation
- Prepare monthly cost variance analysis (purchase price, usage, labor efficiency) and present findings to plant management with actionable insights
- Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, inventory reconciliations, COGS reporting, and overhead absorption calculations
- Partner with Production and Supply Chain to establish accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings for new and existing products
- Lead annual standard cost rollups and update cost models to reflect changes in commodities, labor rates, and overhead pools
- Analyze slow-moving and obsolete inventory; coordinate with operations on write-off procedures
- Support external audit requests related to inventory valuation and cost accounting policies
- Develop financial models for new product launches, make-vs-buy decisions, and capital expenditure proposals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred
- 4+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (food & beverage highly preferred)
- Proficiency in ERP systems required; SAP S/4HANA or Oracle experience a strong plus
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Power Query); Power BI experience a plus
- Solid understanding of GAAP, inventory costing methods (standard, FIFO, weighted average), and SOX internal controls
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate complex data into clear business narratives
